The HDI Dune HD Lite 53D is a universal media player just like any other Dune player, it supports standard and high-definition video playback all the way up to Full HD (1080p), it can also be used as a dedicated console for viewing digital television. The device itself is compact and aesthetically pleasing.

The Dune HD Lite 53D features two high-speed USB 2.0 ports, an SD card reader, and an eSATA connection for external expansion drives. This model has HDMI v1.3, composite and component video outputs. Sound outputs comprise HDMI, Toslink "optical" cable, and RCA stereo. This media player can even be used to stream both audio and video over a local network. The HD Lite uses an Ethernet connection to achieve high-speed data transfer rates of up to 100 megabits per second.

In terms of functionality, the Dune HD Lite 53D meets or surpasses all expectations that anyone might have from a modern multimedia player in this price bracket. For example, this player can be delivered with an internal 2.5" SATA hard drive for recording and playing different types of audio and video content (Please note, the eSATA connection is disabled when an internal hard drive is installed).

Despite the modest price tag, the Lite series comes packed with functionality and features, and its capabilities are not far short of the company's flagship model. According to the manufacturer, the Lite 53D is compatible with almost all popular audio and video formats, it supports IPTV and Internet-radio, and has a built in torrent-client. It is also worth noting that the company is continually refining and improving the functionality of its media players by regularly updating the firmware.

This media player is expected to appear on shelves in early October 2010. The MSRP for Dune HD Lite 53D is expected to be on the level of USD 169 for the USA market and EUR 169 in Europe (inc. VAT).
