HDI Dune has achieved an agreement with Tuxera Inc. on licensing its commercial NTFS filesystem driver for Sigma Designs 864x platform.

The Tuxera's commercial NTFS filesystem driver provides a possibility to write to NTFS-formatted storages and has an excellent performance for both read and write operations.

Previously, Dune 3.0 media players supported only the standard set of possibilites for working with filesystems provided by the underlying Linux-based Sigma Designs 864x platform: read-write support for FAT, EXT2, EXT3 filesystems, and read-only support for NTFS filesystems. After inclusion of the new driver, it will become possible to both read and write data to all these filesystems.

This will make it possible to use NTFS hard drives for many operations which were previously impossible, e.g.:
  • Attach an NTFS HDD to Dune 3.0 unit and directly copy/move/delete/organize files and folders on it using a TV and remote control.
  • Attach an NTFS HDD to Dune 3.0 unit and copy files to it from a PC using SMB or FTP protocols.
  • Record IPTV channeks (in future: Internet Radio, Digital TV, and other kinds of audio/video materials) to an NTFS HDD attached to Dune 3.0 unit.
  • Download torrents (using torrent client built-in into Dune) to an NTFS HDD attached to Dune 3.0 unit.

It is planned that the new driver and the new NTFS write possibilities will be included into one of the next firmware updates for Dune 3.0 media players in the nearest time.

The new features will be added to both Dune BD Prime 3.0 and Dune HD Base 3.0 models.

The new features will not only become available for newly manufactured Dune 3.0 units, full and fast NTFS support will also be available for free for all the users who already bought Dune players of the 3.0 version.
